Recent Obsessions

Hello loves. My most recent obsession, a backyard pool installation, seems to be having it's way with my imagination every single second of the day and I'm thinking I need to make it a reality.
When poolside lounging looks this good who wouldn't want a pool, right? I've never had one before but I'm thinking what would be better for a Mom with 5 boys to pass the summer days and evenings? Plus it would make my yard such an awesome oasis. To those more in the know, any advice or 'must haves' that should definitely be considered??
Of course, the fantasy has inspired much research and pinning- images via

Hi love! Go ahead and get one! I'm sure it will be even more lovely than those images. :) Let me know what you install one and I'll be sure to bring my swimsuit when I visit (which I am seriously going to do)!

I hope you share who you go with and how the experience is. I'm Calgary based and we're thinking to get one after that hot week we just had. First world problems right?!
I love everything you do and your choices are always spot on. Maybe I can copy your pool and it saves me thinking for myself. LOL hope that doesn't sound offensive.
best regards,
Sherry

I am doing a house with a great built in pool when it's done I know it will be stunning......but the work that goes into maintaining it well that's another story.Especially when the ocean is just a few feet away from their door step!

It's so hard for me not to have a pool ...... we had one growing up so I do consider myself slightly spoiled when I have a hard time swimming in public pools or lakes. I like to see the bottom and don't like to share with people I don't know. One thing I would love to do is get some shots of the pools in Palm Springs, wanna go? :-)

That first pic is fabulous. I've been seeing so many poolside photography being recycled and that one is new to me.

You will LOVE having one! Have had a backyard pool now for 12 years and it is a wonderful addition to my yard and garden!

Oh my gosh, I would loooove to have a pool too. That last photo makes me want to take a mini getaway to Palm Springs! Gagh!!! In the meantime, the kiddie pool will have to be it for me! hah!

P.S. I have some exciting news! I am moving my blog over from ThreeLayerCake to GlamourMash and would love if you followed me there! I haven’t made the official announcement to my followers yet but I wanted to let some of my favorite bloggers (YOU!) know first!

You NEED a black liner if you decide to do it. We just put in a pool last summer and decided to opt for black instead of the typical blue - best decision we made!!

our first pool was just completed about 2 weeks ago. we moved to texas last year... pools are almost a necessity here. we went with a simple, sleek, modern design... a rectangle with 12" stone border, grass surround, waterfall on one end, steps on the other. i love it. my only advice is to have is built during "off-season"... nothing worse than seeing a concrete hole in the backyard when it's hot out and you want to swim! pam

Love the pool pics--that's why I love living in Florida. I just found your site and am now following. Can't wait to read more!

Where was the second photo taken? The mountain backdrop is breath-taking.

I think it may actually be a necessity with 5 boys. I would definitely put in a salt water, and no diving board, unless you have really good medical insurance. Hope you do it, sounds like it's a justifiable purchase for sure.

Not sure which I want more - the pool or the Slim Aarons poolside shot!

My advice - have a built in table in your pool. I can send you a picture of ours. It has benches in the water around the table and we use that thing all the time! The kids eat dinner at the table in the water, I sit and read a book at the table - all while in the water. It's like a swim up bar, but in the water. We had them put an umbrella hole in the middle so you can sit in the water and still be in the shade. The table is made of the same flagstone as the coping around the pool.
Again, I can send you a picture so you can visualize what I'm talking about. But it's the BEST thing about our pool and everyone who comes over says WHAT A GREAT IDEA!
